Who makes ThonRetire
Nguyễn Thành Dân — Founder and editor, Thon, Hanoi, Vietnam.
What I am not
I am not an immigration lawyer, a tax adviser or a financial adviser, and nothing here is advice. What I can promise is narrower and checkable: where each number came from, and when.
That matters more than it sounds. Most sites in this niche read like a law firm and are a lead-generation page for one. If you need someone to sign off on your file, you need a licensed adviser in the country you are moving to, and this site is not a substitute for one. What it is good for is the step before that: working out which two or three countries are worth paying an adviser to look at.
Why this exists
I build Thon, a small software company in Hanoi. ThonRetire started because I could not find one place that told me, for a given passport and a given age, what a country actually asks of you and when that answer was last checked. Everything here is assembled by hand from the source each government publishes, and every figure carries the month we last opened that page.
How to check me
Every claim on this site is built to be argued with. There are 17 destinations scored across 39 criteria, and the statutory figures behind them trace back to 35 primary pages published by the ministries, revenue authorities and programme agencies themselves — each one a link you can open from the country page. Where a number is ours rather than theirs — the composite score, cost of living, healthcare and flight time — it says so and points at the method instead of borrowing a government name.
Every field also carries the month it was last checked. Right now 612 facts are tracked and 0 sit past their re-check window; when a figure goes far enough past it, the site hides the number rather than show you a stale one. Data & sources shows the whole picture and the changelog shows what moved. If you find something wrong, there is a report link on every country page and it lands in the same queue I work from.
